Life is like a movie. There’s an ending tragedy. Other’s make the audience happy. In box-office what sells is comedy. Indie films make you wild and free. But in real life you can’t be choosy.
Life Versus Movie (2x) Idealistic Versus Realistic Protagonist Versus Antagonist Life doesn’t have a box-office hit LIFE IS WHAT YOU MAKE IT.
VERSE II In life you can’t decide the ending. Anytime you could be going. In movie it must be redeeming. The viewers can’t keep crying. In movies there’s formatting. In life there’s thing you can’t be doing.
BRIDGE Life ain’t fair. Life is cruel sometimes. Life is real. Movies are made to believe. Life is now. Accept it. Prepare at all times. Life is not story. You can’t write it. Life is what you make it.
REPEAT I and CHORUS REPEAT II and CHORUS REPEAT BRIDGE
Life Versus Movies (2x) Reality versus Fantasy. Tragedy versus Comedy. Life is not a movie. End it with a legacy. Life versus movies (2x) Life is what you make it. End with a legacy.

Steven Lucas works as Chief Producer at QATAR Television - his bread and butter for his family who lives with him in Doha. His community service is through events tailor made for his fellow countrymen, hence the name Mr. Eventologist by his friends. Their first concert endeavor - NINA and SIDE A Band concert with an investment share of 125,000 QAR Riyals. Problem occurs when main producer takes away the money and goes missing.
Steven and friends stage a basketball clinic and a friendly game with PBA Legends to recoup their lost from previous event. It succeeds, but the travel agency airline ticket sponsor fails to provide the airfare worth 80,000 QAR Riyals. Steven pays it from his own pocket.

It paves way for QATAR ATHLETIC FEDERATION (QAF) partnership called the DIAMOND LEAGUE - a live athletic event considered as qualifier for the Olympics. The after party of QAF'S Diamond League features Kamikaze Band, Yeng Constantino and Christine Reyes. It attracts more than 15,000 spectators, but logistics problems trigger Filipino community to complain. QAF apologizes and promises to improve. This led to the next Diamond League event with Gary Valenciano the year after but with less number of spectators turn out. QAF opens gates and it becomes a free event. A financial loss on the part of Steven’s team.

Solo Events later partners with Steven for a series of events in Asian Town – an ambitious Perfect Concert Series : Part 1 – PERFECT 10 with Sarah Geronimo, Part 2 – PERFECT VOICES with The Voice of The Philippines Champions and Part 3 - PERFECT COMBINATION with David Pomeranz, Joey Albert, Manny and Jinky Pacquiao.
Series of obstacles, bashing, bullying, fake news and force majeure hinder the success of the events. Sandstorm and heavy rains hit Sarah Geronimo's Perfect 10 Concert at an outdoor amphitheater.

After all these problems, Qatar Television terminates his contract. No events. No source of income. No money to return to investors. He gets his own life and is in coma for a long time. He survives and gets jailed because suicide is a criminal offence in Qatar.
During this time, he develops a project to to put his feet back on track, but not through an event nor a TV program. He writes a movie about his fall from grace but he deletes the part of suicide to have a happy Hollywood ending. The battle between him and his friends about being realistic and to stop being idealistic. A journey between real life and a fictional film.
Event / Concert volunteers and staff of Steven Lucas.
Steven's friends re-group and help him materialize the project. A documentary using actual footage of their events and a drama using real actors and his team as themselves. A digital independent movie - this Film, THE EVENTOLOGIST.
Eventologist The Movie. “When the master of events falls from grace and manipulates the ending of his life story.” Based on actual events. Written by Oscar De Jesus Yema.
STEVEN LUCAS (not his real name) is an event organizer of Filipino community events in Doha, Qatar. He falls from grace and gets his own life. In coma, he comes up with the idea to get his career back on track.
It is a MOVIE about his downfall and how to stand again head up high. EVENTOLOGIST is a coined term for “event organizer”, not a body of science. That’s what his friends call him. Mr. Eventologist himself wrote the script when he wakes up from coma.
The problem, content of the movie is as idealistic as he is. He changes the story to fit the format of a Hollywood happy ending. A formula for block-buster hits. No suicide, just a happily ever after. It’s a unrealistic and idealistic story like his events. A no-no to Hollywood that the main character dies. Like his past event as well, the idea won’t sell. A life versus movie conflict.
The movie is about friendship through thick and thin as Steven and friends stage concerts for the Filipino community. The movie will show behind the scenes on how the event is organize as the story unfolds and the script develops into a full blown screenplay, interwoven into the film fabric’s drama within.
The movie is a documentary using actual footage of celebrities that came to Doha with Steven Lucas and producer such as Sarah Geronimo, Gary Valenciano, Kamikaze Band, Yeng Constantino, Christine Reyes, Side A Band, Nina, PBA Legends to name a few. Even footage of singers who did not come to Doha but was paid for like David Pomeranz, Joey Albert, The Voice Champions, Jennylyn Mercado and many more, thus his downfall. Why they did not come to perform? That is his fall from grace.
The movie is about crab mentality of Filipinos abroad, fake news and on-line bullying that triggered Steven Lucas’ suicide. He was destroyed on social media by his fellow countrymen.
The Eventologist is a much-watch movie by Filipino expats who are hungry of entertainment in their respective countries. A global film of relevance with a touch of glitz and glamour.
FADE IN: Qatar has been my second home for the past 10 years. Five years as an Overseas Filipino Worker and five years inside prison. I arrived Qatar on the eve of January 2011. For almost one year, I was a producer for an advertising company in Doha then later moved as Chief Producer for Qatar Television HD Channel. On this MTV you will find behind the scenes of AL GALAYEL Falcon Hunting Reality Competition first season on 2012 organized by Katara. Since then it has become a yearly event for the locals. Other behind the scenes (BTS) includes AL SENYAR, another yearly competition of Katara for sea lovers - a fishing and pearl diving competition for locals as well. Two equally important traditions of Qatar before oil was discovered on their lands. It is their culture and I am lucky to pioneer these two events documented for Qatar Television (QTV) for the first time.
"Our Life is beautiful" as my children used to say. Because of Qatar, I was able to send them to college. When I got jailed, they were already graduates ready to start their own careers. Qatar has become our second home because of the free accommodation, airfare benefits and other perks given to my family by QTV. Then things got complicated. I lost my job and wasn't able to pay my bank loan monthly installments. The Advertising company that I used to work re-hired me. But this did not change the bank's decision for me to pay in full. Strictly no re-structure. How could it be? How could a man who lost his job can pay in full his bank loan? Until now, I don't have the answer that instead of allowing me to work, they filed a case and locked me up in jail. I was in solitude and jobless for almost five years. Well, that is all water under the bridge now. I served my sentence while enjoying my time to write screenplays.
That's Qatar law. It's either you pay your loan or accept the jail sentence. But it doesn't end there. After serving the criminal case in prison, the creditor can still file a civil case against the debtor. In civil proceedings, debtor can choose to pay in installment or be locked up again in jail. After serving both, then the travel ban of debtor will be lifted. That's the only time the debtor can go back to his or her home country. My suggestions to Filipino Expats, before getting a loan, think about it a hundred times.
One of my movies I wrote inside jail is all about this, titled QOSA. You can go to spec script page of this website and choose the film title for the synopsis. But I would like to make it clear, I am not bitter and upset about it, nor hate Qatar for what happened to me. We make our own choices and must be accountable to it. I still love Qatar and considers the best years of my family life. The music video will prove this to be true.
If you feel the same way, make your own music video of your Qatar escapades as our way of saying thank you to Qatar. Use the same music but please credit the composer and the performer as written on the opening video. I LOVE QATAR, composed by Vehnee Saturno, interpreted by Beverly Caiman and lyrics by Tito Camayanada. Lets flood the social media with this music and your visuals until the 18th of December, the day to celebrate Qatar National Day.
Imagine eight (8) screenplay handwritten by yours truly. There were no available typewriter nor a computer. It was just like a stone age with a pen and paper in front of me.
WHERE WAS I? For five years, I was on HIATUS BY DEFAULT.
Wondering why? I don't have the guts to reveal exactly. Then I asked myself, why will I be ashamed of it? I have encoded all the manuscripts into digital format — I am already a free man in the outside world, preparing my screenplay's journey into production.
The time to reveal is now. It was a journey of self-reflection, if I may put it lightly. Truth is, I was in prison for the last five years, burying myself with what I call “work”; something that I can get myself out of this difficult conundrum.
That made my life productive and busy.
My sister was generous enough to send me books to read. And I read it over and over again until I learned writing techniques from different authors and school of thought. Then I was able to write different genres of films. No time wasted in jail. I was just like enrolled in a university with round the clock security, utilities, board and lodging FOR FREE. Though, it was really lonely in detention. I fought it and survived. That was my journey to positivity. The power of accepting THE NOW.
The case was a guarantee check from a bank loan. I lost my job that time and the bank wanted me to pay in full. This will be another topic to write about. The non-payment of bank loan is a criminal offence in Doha, Qatar. Instead of allowing the debtor to work and restructure the loan, they will lock you up in prison as per their law. But I'm done with it. Served and paid the loan through a jail sentence of four years and 9 months. During these times books have been my companion every single day, 24/7.
This is the backstory of this website and blogs. This website is where you will find the finished products. My blogs will be sharing of my experiences. The journey of bitterness to sweet. The process of accepting from denial. And finally, the journey of my screenplay to production - the real happy ending of my life and manuscripts. In the beginning of my detention, I asked my self WHY? What have I done to be locked up leaving my family behind. I had to send them back home to Manila. The solitude and isolation at it's best.
Then I realize the reason why God gave space and time - MOVIES... To fulfill my personal dream and passion. To be in jail gives you all the time to read and write. voila! 8 screenplays in five years and counting. This website is my story. The films I wrote is my voice. The themes are my lessons in life and my advocacies. To quote one book author, JEN GRISANTI of STORYLINE - "Find gold in your life story."
